Kairos
Kairos is a Greek word: καιρός. It means the right moment. Not time as it merely passes, which the Greeks called chronos, but the opportune time, the decisive one. The moment that asks to be met with awareness rather than avoidance.
That is the whole idea. Death is the one certainty every life contains, and the one many of us arrange never to look at until we are forced to. Kairos is built on the opposite premise: that the end of a life is worth meeting clearly, and worth planning for, like anything else that matters.
The work
Kairos is a curated resource for the ecological end of life. We gather the best alternatives to the conventional funeral: natural and conservation burial, human composting, water cremation, memorial reefs, living urns. We explain each one plainly. What it does, what it costs, where it is legal, and what its environmental impact actually is. We do not sell embalming, metal caskets, concrete vaults, or anything built to outlast the person inside it.
We believe the disposition of a body is a design problem, a chemistry problem, an ecological problem and a legal one. We believe planning for it is not morbid. We believe there is no perfect choice, only informed ones. A body is a hundred pounds of nutrients. Our work is making sure it is allowed to do some good.
Financial transparency
Kairos is a for-profit business. It publishes editorial content about death, dying, and environmental impact, and it intends to sell products related to ecological burial and to earn affiliate commissions. Here is exactly how that will work, so none of it is hidden.
Nothing on this site is monetised today. There are no affiliate links and no products for sale yet. The two mechanisms below describe how revenue will work when it begins.
Direct sales
Products sold through the Kairos shop will be sold by Kairos. Whether a specific order ships from our own inventory or directly from a supplier, Kairos is the seller of record in both cases. Every direct-sale product is tagged Kairos.
Affiliate commissions
Some links may go to third-party products or services. When a visitor purchases through one of those links, Kairos earns a commission. The price to the buyer is the same either way. Every affiliate link is tagged Affiliate and carries a plain disclosure. No such links are live at present.
Resource hub
Kairos is committed to serving as a resource hub through the curation of bold conversations about death, dying and grief — as well as the provision of free resources to support those in various stages of planning for or responding to a death.
